FROM HAL: Golden Mikes night was REALLY GOLDEN for
our own Lance Orozco! Lance won EIGHT GOLDEN MIKES Saturday
night at the annual Los Angeles awards ceremony -- 8!!!!
Kudos Lance -- we're proud of you! There were lots of
LA Radio and TV personalities out for the night. Among
the presenters were KNBC's Colleen Williams, KCBS' Linda
Alvarez, KCAL's Sylvia Lopez and KMEX's Nancy Augusto.
KNX's Dave Zorn and KFWB's Erin Kotecki were there. KSWB
Weather Anchor Renee Kohn made it to the Universal Hilton
festivities from San Diego. Again, way to go Lance! |

KNBC WINS BEST ONE-HOUR EVENING NEWSCAST; KTLA AND KCBS
TAKE OTHER HONORS; SAN DIEGOS COX CH.4 GRABS 10 AWARDS;
KNX NABS TOP RADIO AWARD; KCLUS OROZCO EARNS 8 AWARDS
IN RTNAS 52ND ANNUAL GOLDEN MIKES
(UNIVERSAL CITY) - KNBC earned bragging rights for the best
60-minute evening newscast, edging out KTLA and KCAL, while
KTLA captured best daytime newscast of any length and KCBS
won the best 30 minutes or less TV newscast, in Div. A competition
of the Radio & TV News Association of Southern Californias
52nd annual Golden Mike Awards, at the Universal Hilton Hotel.
KNX-AM radio (seven awards) defeated rival KFWB-AM (three
awards) in the best radio newscast competition, topping Div.
A with seven awards, followed by KPCC of Pasadena with six
Golden Mike Awards. KFI-AM won Div. As Best Newscast
Under 15 Minutes, while KUZZ-FM of Bakersfield won top honors
in Div. B of that competition.
Thousand Oaks KCLU-FM news director and reporter Lance
Orozco stunned Radios Div. B competition, capturing
a remarkable eight Golden Mikes, followed by KPFK-FM with
five.
Channel 4 San Diego-Cox powerhouse led all winners with
10 Golden Mikes in Div. B. Meanwhile, in Div. A TV competition,
KCAL led with six Golden Mikes, followed by KMEX with five,
KNBC with four awards and KCOP and San Diego stations XETV
and KGTV with three Golden Mikes each. KCBS earned two awards.
