NOTE FROM HAL: They call him Hollywood's honorary Mayor and,
I can tell you from personal experience he's great at it! But,
Johnny Grant has had a remarkable career working with media
and many of us in the business. Given all he has done the board
of The Associated Press Television Radio Association of California,
Nevada and Hawaii has voted to give Johnny a special tribute
at this year's Mark Twain Awards Celebration. If you'd like
to take a look at the life of Johnny Grant just check out this
from his website www.johnnygrant.com.

APTRA Goes Hollywood
For over five decades the APTRA convention has moved from
city to city. One year in Northern California .. the next
in Southern California. It has also been in Las Vegas. In
the Southland it usually been held at Disneyland, but for
the first time Universal Studios Hollywood will play host
to the annual gathering.
It all starts Friday night March 2nd. Convention weekend
will kick off with a huge welcoming bash at Universal CityWalk
hosted by Universal Theme Park. The private party will be
held on the first floor of Cafe Tu Tu Tango.
Saturday, March 3rd will be a day filled with all kinds of
activities and parties. For aspiring broadcasters it starts
with APTRA Academy Junior -- a liveshot camp where the pros
help those looking to be in our industry with the production
of a liveshot they can use on their resume tapes. For the
pros, there will be a morning general session and a series
of professional workshops throughout the day. All at the Universal
Hilton -- our convention headquarters.
Lunch on Saturday will be very different! APTRA ... The Associated
Press Television Radio Association is now APTRA of California,
Nevada and Hawaii. Hawaii joined the organization in 2006
so, this will be their first convention. To honor Hawaii our
technical awards luncheon will be a Hawaiian Luau! It will
be at the Universal Hilton, full of surprises and emceed by
Angela Keen. Angela is the morning news anchor at KHNL --
Honolulu's NBC station.
The afternoon will be filled with interesting workshops ...
all to be announced in the near future.
The evening will be as different at the luau luncheon. Like
last year the evening activities are "black tie preferred."
First, there will be a cocktail reception in the Parisian
Courtyard inside the theme park. That will be followed by
the 2007 Mark Twain Awards at The Globe Theater -- also inside
Universal Theme Park. The dinner will be catered by Wolfgang
Puck! Then it will be back to the Parisian Courtyard for a
post-show party!
And ... THAT'S NOT ALL ... Sunday will be media day at Universal
Theme Park and a chance for conventioneers to enjoy the day
at Universal Studios Hollywood!
More details on convention activities, ticket prices and
special hotel rates will follow in the weeks to come on both
HalEisner.com
and www.aptra.org.
